Important Naming Fact #1: My favorite comic strip will always be Calvin and Hobbes. The last strip was published January 1, 1996 and I still miss my daily dose of Calvin.
Important Naming Fact #2: When I first started my blog I searched for a single-word moniker that was law-ish but more importantly was Google unique.
I couldn't come up with a clever single word legal term. Besides which, there were a lot of legal term blog names out there already. I started playing around with words I liked.
Hence, transmogriflaw. It is a single-word, Google-unique invented name in honor of Calvin's greatest invention, the transmogrifier. I'm transmogrifying myself: in the past few years I've gone from software engineer to law student, from childfree to pregnancy to motherhood. Life is more interesting when one transmogrifies along the way, I think.
The name is a little awkward, but so am I sometimes.
