My boy is steadily vanquishing the Great Frustration in his life, otherwise known as his wily fist. His thumb longs to be united with his mouth, but that oppressive fist keeps the poor thumb under strict lock and key. Nathaniel methodically chews on his knuckles in what appears to be a creative attempt to eat through to his thumb's freedom, but his toothless gums haven't made much progress on that front.
But today! Victory! The thumb escaped the grasp of the fist not once but four times today. The escapes weren't long. The fist of control asserted itself shortly after the thumb made happy contact with the tongue. The thumb meekly fell back into line. But freedom has been tasted here today. It won't be long now before the great fist wall crumbles.
That is so funny! I've been poring over my What to Expect the First Year as if it were my First Amendment textbook now that we're T minus 26 days to birth. Things I thought babies did automatically (like thumb sucking) actually are turning out to be skills. Who knew? Not me. I had some time with a new to me 6 month old boy yesterday. He was a little wary at first when his dad went out to the car with what's left of my husband's homebrew, but he warmed up to me very fast and gave me a big smile. In the pre-preg days that would have made my ovaries hurt - now it just makes me that much for excited for Henry to get here so we can meet him. BTW - I'm thrilled you changed your blog so I can comment now. You are definately one of my regular reads and there's always so much I want to say since we're in a similar boat.

Thank you very much! I'm glad you like it, and I'm thrilled to meet another mother in law school.
Good luck with labor! And I love the name Henry.
