hot, mama
It was very, very hot this past weekend. We don't have air conditioning, something we rarely need but when we do need it, we curse and metaphorically shake our fists at our parsimony in refusing to install it. And yet, tonight the heat wave has broken and I can guarantee you we won't have air conditioning next summer when we need it.
Nathaniel slept terribly both nights of the heat wave. At one point I walked into his room and found him standing up in his crib drenched in sweat. Mournfully, he sobbed, "Hot, Mama. Hot." He was right, and I couldn't do anything. Poor hot baby.
But as bad as I thought the weekend was, it was not my last weekend before the bar, which means my weekend could have been significantly worse. All across our baked country, law students are in the final countdown, especially the law students I care the most about: my 1L cohort. In California, the bar begins tomorrow. It's three days, three intense full days of examination. It is a terrifically difficult exam.
If I had followed the traditional route, I'd be in an air conditioned hotel room tonight, trying to achieve that optimal test-taking mindset, the test zen. I suppose it is a matter of heat-related desperation that I briefly thought that the bar might be a good tradeoff for air conditioning.
Best of luck, my fellow 1Ls. I'll be thinking of you.
::chuckles:: Yes, I'd say it was heat-related desperation that would have you so thinking!
It could be worse -- you could be 81 years old, living in St. Louis and have no power at all. Such is my mother-in-law. It's been a terrific heat wave. I hope it is now passed.

Good luck and best wishes.
When do you find out your result?
