greetings

Well, hello. Goodness, I have missed you all.

I apologize for dropping off last month. My initial plans to clear blogging immediately with my judge were stymied by a busy period in chambers. I didn't want to bother my judge with something as trivial as my blog during that time.

I cannot say much about externing, of course, but I do love it. I wish I didn't have a long commute -- thankfully next year I will work about fifteen minutes from home -- but the experience is worth the commute. Besides which, on some days I can incorporate a three-mile walk into my commute, and I like the exercise even if it is through a sketchy neighborhood.

In law school news, I'm taking a class, Corporations. Wills & Trusts was unfortunately not my last law school exam after all.  I have a multiple choice exam in the spring. I would have preferred no exams, but when I added up the units from externing, in order to have no exams I would have had to take two classes, not one.

No thank you to that. I did not want to take one class, let alone two. I must admit I'm approaching Corporations with an eye for the B, not the A, even though I like the subject matter. Classes are the source of my 3L ennui, something I didn't expect to encounter, but there it is. I'm at the point in law school where I'm not absorbing much from the classes.  My 1L and 2L years laid the foundation, but at this point I'm learning a lot more by practicing law as a beginner as compared to classwork.

The gap in terms of what I absorb between the externship and my Corporations class is so very large. In both classes and in externing I am grappling with areas of law that are entirely new to me, but what I learn in externing sticks with me a lot more. It's a lot more like how I learned the subject matter from my 1L and 2L classes.

I think this is good news. I think it means that I'm ready to practice law, that I've squeezed and wrung all the learning I'm going to get out of law school. It is time for the next stage of learning law.

To that end, I registered for BarBri a few days ago. Yikes.

But enough about law school. Here is my most recent favorite Nathaniel picture. His California-surfer 'do has a limited lifespan left, so I'm enjoying it while it lasts.

Good lord, he is a cutie. Email me if you want my E&E for Corporations - I managed not to fail it last semester, so it's all yours if you do!

You're back! Yay. Don't mean to sound strange or something. I'm just a perspective 1L whose been reading through your archives and then boom, they stopped. I thought it might be something like Sua Sponte or something, where you just reached a point and stopped. Glad to see that you're still out there blogging.

Glad to hear you and your clan are alive and well. Nathaniel is just the cutest. I know how much I enjoyed my field placement at a court house, and I only did 10 hours a week. I can't imagine how much more interesting it'd be if you spend consistent day in day out time there.

Glad to find you are still around and "allowed to blog!" And that is a lovely picture of your son.

welcome back! i missed reading your blog!

Thank you all. It is lovely to be back.

Yay, you're back. You were the first blog I ever started reading in law school (being bored out of your mind in crim leads you to discover things like blogs) and a few months ago I started one of my own!

Your son is darling!

Welcome back, T. I missed you. My god, how Nathaniel has grown. He is such a handsome young man.

Good luck with BarBri. I hope you get to attend a live lecture. Mine were all video and I thought the lectures were merely mediocre. My primary advice: do lots of practice questions. And, don't forget that the practice MBE that BarBri administers is much harder than the actual exam (having just completed it yesterday).
