career talk
Readers, I gave up. After taking two hours to force myself through half of one Contracts essay, I called it a day. It wasn't happening and I was getting more frustrated with myself by the minute.
I IMed my husband, and found out he was planning to leave work a little early. Perfect. We packed Red Wiggly and her leash into the car, put on our walking hats, and picked up Nathaniel together. From there we drove to a local park.
Nathaniel regularly asks to go on "family walks." We try to go as often as we can. We all enjoy it. Today the weather was perfect, with a warm breeze, and we walked through the park.
While on the swingset, Nathaniel unexpectedly mused about his future career aspirations.
"When I grow up, I will be a man." We agreed.
"But now I am a boy." We agreed again.
"I will be a teacher!"
We were bemused, that being his first indication of any sort of career awareness. We told him that if he wanted to be a teacher, a teacher was a fine thing to be.
He mulled over the idea of "being" something. I think it was a new concept. A second later he declared, "I will be a 'struction man."
A logical choice for a child who knows more about construction equipment than I do, but he looked unfinished. He mulled over his options more, and then appeared to reach a satisfactory conclusion.
"Mama, Daddy, I will be a caboose!"
It sounds a heck of a lot more fun than being a lawyer right now, that's for sure.
Cute.
My brother, as the story goes, used to say he wanted to be Kermit the Frog when he grew up.
Good luck with the studying...
